Pirate Fact Number Three: Blackbeard often engaged in games with his crew solely for the purpose of impressing them with his superiority. On one such occasion while drinking with first mate Israel Hands, he cocked two pistols and shot the man under the table, crippling him forever. He then stated, “if he did not now and then kill one of them, they would forget who he was”. Blackbeard was never forgotten.
Pirate Friday Fact: Number Two May 1718 Blackbeard and his crew blockade Charleston Harbor for 9 days. No ships were allowed in or out and many were captured. Hostages were taken to make a trade for medicines. Blackbeard and his crew were in search of a cure, a cure for VD! Brothel casualties took more Pirate lives than battle did.
Pirate Fact Numero Uno: St Vincent 1717 Benjamin Hornigold and Edward Teach capture the Concord, arm her with 40 guns, and rename her Queen Anne’s Revenge. Edward Teach becomes captain and renames himself Blackbeard. The legend is born. |
